hi what would be a better wood for the body of a guitar
for overall strength and tone quality

solid maple or basswood?

what type of tone do you want? both could be good.

I'll have to put the Classic T models on my to-try list. Shame the finish options there are Anachronism Gold, Nuclear Waste and Aged Clown, because in principle the plaintop is right up my alley.

Presumably because the CCF (Combined Corksniffing Forces) of MLP and Gibson forums would rise up against them, plunging the land into war.

wellfor a rock, alt, punk, indie
but im looking for the more higher quality wood out of the two

Both a fine as far a quality goes and its a matter of your taste in tone. Maple has a much brighter sound, the highs really cut through. Basswood on the other hand is more centered around the mid-ranges. Given what you play, you might want a maple body with really warm sounding humbucking pickups, like a seymour jazz. That way you have good definition with out the twang.

yeah, i'd have said as far as quality of tone, it's hard to say. i know john suhr says basswood kicks ass, even though it's much-maligned by some other people.

interestingly, i tried a maple-bodied superstrat (kramer richie sambora sig) versus an ibanez basswood rg, and the kramer sounded warmer unplugged. it's quite hard to predict tones, to be honest.
