Any suggestions for a good beginner/intermediate guitar? My price range is up to $300. I play mainstream rock, alternative and sometimes metal, so versatility is appreciated.

NO!

I think an Agile would be perfect for you.

Mine was my 2nd electric, and I'm really happy with it for the price.

I have some pics of mine if you want to see them.

Find a used Fender fat strat, they usually run about $250, or maybe a really good Squier. Also try an Ibanez, maybe an epiphone.

Ibanez GRG170DX is good, I got one as my third electric and it owns, for the price anyway.
Gear:
Schecter C-1 Hellraiser
Ibanez GRG170DX
Peavey Vypyr 75
Fender Princeton 650 DSP w/ Celestion 80w speaker

I was originally thinking of an Ibanez GRG170DX or Ibanez GSA60.

Get a Yamaha Pacifica. You'll have money left over for some effects pedals or something else

Yeah, I've heard very good things about Pacifica's. Lots of awards and stuff like that. Check 'em out.
