SOAD songs are all easy to play but they're probably too fast for him. Killswitch Engage actually has slow songs in Drop C. Black Label Society. Metal is usually fast paced. lol Try and just teach him the fast songs by going at a really slow tempo and then speeding it up more and more.
mmmmmmhmmm

That's exactly what I've been trying to say.

Killswitch definitely isn't a beginner band. But as the last guy said, it's really not good to start with alternate tunings.

Well, if he likes Kse I think you should try to teach him Rose of Sharyn. That song only took me 1 day to learn. I've got it all down except like the outro. I've been playing for about 3 years, so it may have been kinda easy for me for that reason, but it's mostly an easy song.

Breathe life isn't to bad either.
KSE would be good for him to learn I think cause they have fairly simple stuff, but it's all good.

ATWA by System, and Aerials. Really really easy, and to the guy who said Slipknot play in Drop C, you're wrong. Most of their stuff is in Drop B I believe.

Actually, They've only written one song in C.

Turn him on to The Sword. They play pretty awesome garage metal and I know at least one of their songs is in drop C: "Freya" (of Guitar Hero 2 fame).

The sliding main riff from Steve Vai's Bad Horsie, it isn't that hard and you'll have learnt a Vai riff, which will be very self satisfying for a beginner.

Anything by SOAD is pretty easy. May just take a while to get up to SOAD tempo. BUt just keep practicing and you'll get the hang of it.

Was just about to suggest this, awesome song to play.

It has everything, palm mutes, trem picking, pinch harmonics. It's all there in that song, very cool.

On the whole, I would recommend As I Lay Dying songs, especially confined. If you can play that you are well on your way to playing their whole catalog. Song on Frail Words Collapse are pretty easy as well.

And to whoever said learning guitar in drop tuning is retarded... come on man. As long as it is keeping him playing its all that matters. That and you learn a lot of metal techniques out the gate.

Go Forth and Die- Dethklok

A lot of Slipknot is in Drop Bb or A, but that's beside the point.

American Love by Haste the Day, given he can double pick. It's an easy simple rythym.

Scars Remain by Disciple. I learned that last summer and at that point I'd only been seriously plaiying for about 7 months.
