I think it's safe to say most thrash is standart.

In fact, one of the characteristics of groove is the downtuning.

slayer used standard flat
metallica used standard
megadeth was known for drop d

I believe King and Hanneman used 7 string guitars on God Hates Us All. I THINK so...

does anybody know good setting for thrash metal using a mg100dfx marshall and a metal zone boss ? thanx in advance !!

Depending on the song, you can often still play fairly close to a down tuned song in standard, usually by using the inverted diads.

For example (just doing this fast, so 6-5-4-3-2-1 and the x are just what you aren't playing not muted strings):
D5 in Drop D: 0-0-0-x-x-x
Equivalent in Standard: x-0-0-x-x-x

C5 Drop C: 0-0-0-x-x-x
Equivalent in Standard: 3-3-x-x-x-x

It depends on the song, but pretty often it does sound pretty decent, and it can work up to drop A tuning. It won't necessarily work, especially if they are playing single note riffs that are lower than your low E, or if they are playing a lot of open strings on strings that are slacked from standard. Still something to bear in mind.

A standard 7 String can also play a lot of down tuned songs from standard since it has the B string, but you will still have trouble playing anything with lots of open string parts on a slacked string.

Yep, Megadave is mostly in standard E, Youthanasia and some tracks on Hidden Treasures (Angry Again, Diadems..) are in Eb.

Oh god, can you hear yourself? Trivium are vastly overrated. I'm not disputing that they can play ( maybe even well) but the songs, dear god . . . words cannot describe the pure wank they come up with.

And yes, they DO rip off metallica.

Not really.
Cliff was much better than triviums bassist, and trivium songs sound stupid.
Not to mention metallica's guitar work sounds much cooler.
And MOP, RTL and kill 'em all > all triviums existence

how do trivium rip off metallica?
ive never heard a trivium song that sounds anything like a metallica song, and ive heard most of, if not all of them.
i dont see how they rip them off.

if trivium never said anything about wanting to be 'the next metallica' i bet no one would have even thought to have compare them to metallica.
because they sound nothing like them..

yea the crusade was a little wanky, but ascendancy and ember to inferno ****ing destroy any metallica.

and i highly doubt ur dad could kick my dads ass chips-

What you say about the Metallica comparisons is correct. To my ear at least, and I've listened to a lot of Metallica (since I was four. That's twenty years ago). Not many similarities at all.

However, the rest of your "points" are just opinions.

In the event that chips's dad's ass gets kicked, my shotgun will kick your dads ass and your ass.

Seriously, leave, and never come back.

However, i dont think trivium is a ripoff.
They sound similar, yes, but not a ripoff.

Anyways, Metallica FTW! They have alot of great stuff to jam to. Motorbreath, 4 Horsemen, Master of Puppets.

With Slayer you can't go wrong ethier. Raining Blood!
#38
Slayer usually plays with a 1/2 step tuned down (Eb), but on their latest record they also used 1 1/2 step down on the song Cult. During a live performance they switch guitars so that could explain it.
#39
I almost forgot Municipal Waste.

First two albums by Trivium were in dropped D. Slayer's GHUA was in standard C# as well.
