I was called over by my friend today asked to fix his ethernet problem and tried uninstalling/re-installing drivers for his card but nothing seemed to work. His card wasn't even capable of sending packets of data when I reset his modem. We both decided that I would just buy a new ethernet card and install it for him but when I opened up the case the first thing I noticed was that the ethernet controller was integrated.

His computer is a Dell Dimension E520. Now I haven't had any expiriences with Dells but I'm sure someone here in the pit has. I have a few questions first of all.

1. Will any network card work with the motherboard?
2. Could someone check this card - my friend has an intel mobo so I assumed that an intel card shouldn't have too many problems with it. http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1275962&CatId=200

If the above card isn't a good one/won't work, will any of cards on this page work? http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/category/category_slc.asp?CatId=200&

Just another thing - If you're going to suggest a card, no PCI-e's - just PCI cards.

Also, I know for sure his modem works perfectly because my laptop was connected to it and the packets sent and recieved were in the hundred millions.

And just one last thing I know this is a music forum, but I'm posting here because it's very active - if someone knows a great computer forum where I can get an answer within a day, feel free to post it and I'll be glad to take my question elsewhere.

Thanks.

Ok, I was just making sure, I mean I've never handled Dells before and I always heard something about Dells not being upgrade-able or something or that you had to send it to Dell or something. I thought that this was complete rubbish but better safe than sorry - plus I don't want to waste money on a network card.
