I am a young guitarist and I love tom Morello and Rage and I want to buy a pedal but only have enough $ for one. I have been checking out what Tom uses and I see he uses both alot. I Know im not gonna sound just like him with just one but please give me your input on what one I should buy for some of his cool effects and soloing and some of my own riffs.

A wah pedal is considered more a "staple" kind of effect while the whammy is leaning more towards the unusual IMO. Never having used a whammy I can't say more on the subject.

If you do decide to get a wah I must say you shold avoid the bare bones gcb-95 crybaby unless you plan on modding it as it's not that great. You should also give the weeping demon a try. Also check out the vox wahs.
I don't give a shit if you listen to me or not

Digitech XP100 Whammy-Wah. It's the pedal I own, and it has all the original WH-1 Whammy effects as well as wah and 6 storable effects so u can quickswitch to them versus having to scroll through all 29 effects.

It's no longer in production, but I got mine off ebay and it works great.

I'd say wah. It's more practical and you'll probably use it more. I have the Digitech EX-7 that moody07747 mentioned and I love it. It doesn't have all of the features the original whammy has, but it saves money and it sounds pretty good. If you do end up getting it I'd recomend getting the fs3x foot controller pedal thing for it too so you can go through effects.

If you have good soldering skill and the parts you can easily make the pedal for the EX7 like I did.

Any general type use Diodes should work, I had these sitting in my electronics box and the case I used was from allelectronics.com which I order form all the time.

get the digitech xp-100 whammy wah. its the same pedal Tom Morello uses. it has whammy effects, harmony effects, some wah, and a tuner

EDIT: it's a discontinued model but you should be able to get one off ebay for about $100-$150 USD

Wah = more use than a whammy, IMO.

Don't get any Dunlop wah, not even the Slash. The Slash has a crappy distortion thingy on it, and is 18v. It's no different to the 535Q Crybaby. Get a Vox, or if you can, Fulltone.

Morello uses a WH-1, the original Whammy. But on an other note, that XP100 sounds like a great deal
