When reading chord tabs and someone just says "play A", does that mean any variation we want or just A major by default?

I'm curious because in the same tab I see C#m which I interpret as c sharp major, which is more precise

If you are required to play a variation (e.g. Asus2) the tab should say what that variation is, otherwise just play an A. And the C#m is C sharp minor
If you disagree with anything I say, just take it as a joke
