I am looking for a decent starting guitar no more than 200$. I have never played electric gutiar in my life and am starting at age 17. I want the sound to be clean/fresh enough to play Christian type music and overdrive/gain enough to play around with metallica.

The amp I am looking at is something along the lines off http://www.guitarcenter.com/Crate-FlexWave-FW15R-15W-1x12-Guitar-Combo-Amp-481055-i1175926.gc

I am looking for a guitar/amp that is less than 300$. All options are available expect Flying-V guitar

Alright that is very good to hear. So you guys think its one of the best guitars under 300$?

I don't think I can afford that amp with my budget. I was looking to make it less than 300$ all together. Any more input would be much appreciated ty for the replies so far

Personally I thought it didn't have any gain to it and I woudn't bother with it. I would prefer the solid state crate flexwave, or spider III to it. No one else on UG will agree with me, but thats besides the point.

And to be honest, I would be really bored with the Epi valve Jr. It's going to have like 2 tones, cranked and not cranked. You'd have to constantly buy pedals to make it sound better, which is not my thing. The Flexwave will actually have a good bit of gain and a decent clean for the price.

Might want to look into a used flexwave. Could probably pick the 15watt model up for like $40-$60.

So ( for reference ) something like this?http://www.guitarcenter.com/Crate-FlexWave-Series-FW15-15W-1x8-Guitar-Combo-Amp-481054-i1175925.gc

The biggest group of people I will be playing for is about 25-30 in a basement of a house and they will sing the songs with my lead singer. So it doesn't have to be 50-60w amp. I just want a clean sound when needed and a nice distorted sound when I need it.

In that case you might want a 30 watter. They have a bigger speaker, little bigger tone, and projects quite a bit better.

I am selling a 65watt Crate FXT. Precursor to the Flexwave. I'm basically giving it to you for $160obo if you're interested.

Might want to take a look at a Vox Valvetronix if you're going for a modeling amp. Sounds genuinely better than most of the other modeling amps I've tried....
