I cant seem to find the name of this scale anywere. all i know is it sounds verry good over a mixolydian based prog. I found it in a magazine a while back and the author said it was a pentatonic dominant, i could see were that name would work for it seeing as mixolydian is the V mode and the V chord is a dominant. but looking it up in guitar pro its not the same scale.

anyways, hopefully you can help me out. the notes are D-F#-G-A-C

also forgot to say that all the notes in the scale are also found within mixolydian

then why is it not just mixolydian without the 2 or 6?

it is just the pentatonic of Mixolydian. Dominant(V) Pentatonic(self-explanitory).

Its mixolydian. Just because you aren't playing the 2nd or the 6th doesn't mean you couldn't use them in a solo over that.

D dominant pentatonic, or D blues pentatonic with a major 3rd
