hey guys, i have a question about my neck

I brought an MIM Fender jazz fretless, and the company said that there were a "few thin coats" of polyurethane

is this enough to stand up against roundwounds?

Thanks

yes, any string will be fine. Considering that the string hardly ever touches the actual neck, more it only touches the frets for the most part.

For roundwounds? I'm assuming we're talking about maple, and I'm going to say . . . it'll need a few more coats someday. It'll stand up for maybe a year with a gentle touch.

Flatwound would be safer; consider it.
Sincerely, Chad.

gah, well that proves how much I pay attention.

I recommend that the ts use flatwounds instead of roundwound strings.

Polyurethane is almost bulletproof. Don't worry.

Absolute bollocks. If I had the patience, I could chip off polyurethane with my thumbnail. It's not "bullet proof" and certainly needs maintenance.

Yeah, it chips and cracks easily, but it hardly wears.
