I'm doing a rehab on my 1967 Silvertone (Teisco) guitar. I'm switching out all of the old electronics and pickups. I don't want to change anything I can't put back to original so I need to make another pickguard. What material can be used when a prefab unit can't be found ? Also, the original unit is made out of aluminum, does the one I make also need to be metal and how does that effect the wiring ?

Here's a pic to give an idea of the shape I need.

Unless there are grounding wires attached to the pickguard, it shouldn't really matter what material you use. Metal shields the electronics from interference, so if you decide to go with a plastic pickguard, you might want to glue a few aluminium foil layers to the back.

Theres a wire that runs from the bottom of the tone pot to the underside of the bridge, I'm assuming thats a ground wire but who knows.

if wiring is attached to the pickguard keep the same material
if no then do what u want, but as Uusilehto said glue some aluminium foil to it for sheilding

Ok, but what can I make it out of ? Plexiglass, plastic sheet stock, is there a go to material that will hold up for this job ?

Expensive.
Just get some thin, cheap wood, paint it, and clear coat it. Works fine.

Didn't Kerry King use MGs at some point?

I think he just endorses them because he likes sacks of money
