I have been really listening to alot of grunge lately..
And i've been wondering in my head, "is grunge really dead? or is it just so far underground now you barely hear any?" In my city, grunge is VERY VERY VERY hard to come across.

Anyone here live in a city were grunge is still alive?

im thinking of travelling alot this year after i graduate in may, I want to see some good ****.

First of, yeah, grunge has some strong links to punk, but I think this probably could ahve been somewhere else.
Second: grunge isn't dead. As long as we still listen to it, grunge won't die.

I think so, bands like 3 Days Grace are not grunge there ****in pop rock

This should be in the Modern Rock forum.

I don't think anyone here has much to say about grunge, myself included.

I used to see a lot of bad Nirvana ripoffs at high school battles of the bands. None of them ever played any real shows though.

Isn't that the worst insult ever? Is it supposed to be a swear word?

Punk is from rock. Rock comes from the blues. Therefore, we should all talk about punk in the blues forum.

Yup, makes perfect sense.

I believe you are correct in that assumption.

Grunge was a corporate buzzword and fad that was used to market Alternative Rock Bands with a semi gritty image.

That said, there are some Grunge bands I can really dig from time to time.
#18
I don't like Grunge because it killed 80's hair metal. 80's hair was the greatest, most pure music ever.

Grunge was baby diahrea in everyones eye.
#19
Nah, I don't believe grunge is dead because people still listen to it, and are still being affected and influenced by it. Some alternative/punk bands have elements of grunge in them.

Is grunge dynamic enough to have "elements"?

Dude, hair metal was pure ****.
A bunch of frizzy haired cross dressers screaming high pitched notes over and over to a stupid guitar riff.
Grunge rocked the 80's to death, and just like great punk and ska, grunge never really died. It just went back underground.
Before I actually went looking for it, I didn't even know there WAS a Ska scene in my area. Ska is amazingly underground, very rare in some places, but it still exists. Grunge is still going, it's just hard to find. I still play grunge, and know a lot of people that do. Grunge hasn't died, it just ran away from the lights.

You just described the New York Dolls, who are better than anything you listen to.

Although to be fair, Hair Metal pretty much ripped off the NYD's aside from the good music.

Grunge tried to kill the metal Ha,hahahahaha
They failed, as they were thrown to the ground.

Back in the day when I was really into Nirvana, I decided to check out some other grunge bands. So I bought a Pearl Jam and Soundgarden CD. I found both to be terribly boring. So, I gave up on grunge. Soon after, I discovered the Sex Pistols, who were much less boring, and the rest is history.
The moral of the story is: Punk > Grunge

Yeah, Grunge is dead. Sadly.

Remember a band can only be grunge if they're out of Seattle between 85 and 95.

yeah, grunge is dead but to be grunge u do not have to come from seattle or a specific time. ohhhh no.

Rancid are the best punk band ever.

Tim Armstrong is a songwriting genius, is a complete fashion diva and has an incredible singing voice.

He doesn't sound like Opie from family guy at all.
