Hey, everyone. I've been playing guitar for about a few months total, and I'm trying to pick up some covers of cool songs I've liked. I really like this cover of Aerosmith's "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing," here:

I was wondering how you get that more mellow, poppy sound that the cover artist is doing at 1:00 min. What is this technique called? How does it work?

Also, I was wondering if anyone had suggestions on how I could figure out the chords and tuning the artist uses? I'm a complete beginner, so it's a bit difficult. If you have ANY help that could point me in the right direction, I would be so grateful!

Thank you!
