but recently I tried these and liked them much better.

At that price range you could get a decent set of Bose but theres just something about their headphones I never really liked. It seems to me that they rely on scooping the mids so that you get a great balance between bass and crystal clear highs but the mid range is hard to find with Bose phones IMO. Plus they really color the sound and it tends to sound a bit unnatural.

from my reading at http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/index.php, bose has a very negative reputation for sound quality at a given price point. apparently they're all marketing hype w/ a cheap and poorly performing product.
