I thought they try to download from people, then get their IP address. So you can't get caught unless you're sharing files. But I could be wrong.

They nab more uploaders than downloaders as far as I'm aware... then they make their money in lawsuits. At least that's how I've always perceived things from Ars Technica.

But that'd surely mean that they can't catch you unless they illegaly download a copyrighted track, they'd have to break the law as well, which I don't think they can do. Isn't it called 'entrapment' or something?

Yeah, I don't think they actually download the file, they just use it as way to connect to illegal downloaders.

the thing is, they're the RIAA.. they can do just about anything they want with copyrighted music.
