Well what are some bands that are so instrumentally talented the singing doesn't matter. For me it would be dream theatre even though the singing isn't that bad sometimes it annoys me a bit. But the instrumental work is amazing.

The Mars Volta. I actually love the way he sings, but I know people who hate it but still listen to them.

It's simple to sound like them, tune your guitars down a couple of steps but don't worry if it's actually IN tune or not, then just plug in and throw your guitar out the window.

Although Tommy's voice sounds fukin brutal on Colors anyway. Lyrics don't fit.

Slightly Stupid. He is a great singer but the vocals are mixed very low on some of their songs where the instruments usually stand out a little more.

Hmm I wouldn't agree with some people saying Dream Theater... Sure, they're amazing musicians (and my favorite band) but James is also an awesome singer, and an important part of the Dream Theater formula!

I'm gonna have to say Allman Brothers, as I've never even heard a song where they have vocals, but I still think they're awesome

True. If James LaBrie wasn't there to make them play SONGS, Dream Theater would be boring as ****. If James LaBrie wasn't there, he'd never play any actual riffs, just noodle endlessly.

Also +1 for Between the Buried and Me.

Sigur Ros.

Seriously.

These guys are SOOO good, they just quite literally make up words and sing them. It's all about creating a mood with them, and they do it incredibly well.
