I was looking at a Peavey 6505/5150 but I'm thinking that it would be impractical because of its size.

So I've decided to look at ENGLs (Screamer, Thunder etc).

Pros and cons about ENGLs?

Do they do the darker tones just as good as the peavey?

Btw, I play stuff like Trivium, Machine Head, Chimaira..

The have 6505/5150 2x12 combos. Have you seen those?
None are more hopelessly enslaved than those who falsely believe they are free.

Hey mate, if you're in Brum, make a trip over to PMT. They've got most of the ENGL range in there so you could make your own mind up as to whether they'd suit. They're brighter voiced than the 6505/5150s, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing.

the major con with the screamer is that it's a versatile amp which can get quite high-gain, rather than an amp more aimed at the high gain stuff (as the 5150 is). Of course, what you lose in specialisation, you gain in versatility, but if you only want a high-gain sound... EDIT: shared EQ and footswitch costing extra are also cons.

best if you can try the two head to head, of course.
I'm an idiot and I accidentally clicked the "Remove all subscriptions" button. If it seems like I'm ignoring you, I'm not, I'm just no longer subscribed to the thread. If you quote me or do the @user thing at me, hopefully it'll notify me through my notifications and I'll get back to you.

I'll have to put the Classic T models on my to-try list. Shame the finish options there are Anachronism Gold, Nuclear Waste and Aged Clown, because in principle the plaintop is right up my alley.

Presumably because the CCF (Combined Corksniffing Forces) of MLP and Gibson forums would rise up against them, plunging the land into war.

What does PMT stand for?

Do they have a site?

Where abouts are they in Brum?

PMT is Professional Music Technology. It's a pretty big shop, with some very nice gear in store and the staff are actually really helpful. It's a couple of minutes walk from Millenium Point. You can see their website here.
