Sorry about this being a bit of a n00by question, but it would be helpful to know. Would a 50W combo amp (talking valves here) be quieter than the 50w head version of that same amp with a single cab? If the question is a little too broad, just ask a for some exact details. Your input is appreciated

Thanks

It depends on the speakers (although cab construction also matters a little).

Although either way, the difference will be pretty negligible. If you're going from a 1x12 combo to a 4x12 halfstack, that'll be noticeable. But a 50W all tube 1x12 is still more than plenty for gigs.

But yeah, feel free to tell us what amp and cab we're talking about here.
You Don't Need a halfstack.

You Don't Need 100W.

Well, my previous comments hold then. You could certainly get by with the combo. If you're playing a lot of metal, you may want the added bottom of a head & cab combo. I'd probably split the difference and look for a nice 2x12, but that's me.

Wont be playing masses of metal so i think the combo would suit me better.
