what are the main differences between the different type of nuts you can get ie, brass, graphite, bone, plastic and any other i dont know about

i am presuming the difference to be mainly tonal, but is there a difference in tuning stability?

tah

I think its the other way around. I'd imagine they affect tone very little and tuning stability majorly.

Tonally I believe. As long as it's well cut, they'll have the same tuning stability (maybe except cheap plastic ones). Brass is a brighter tone, bone is darker I believe.

^...*facepalm*

I also think brass has the best sustain. Assuming that it's probably denser than bone.
