ok, i have a marshall valvestate head that is 4ohm. will it be fine to use an 8ohm cab?

it will mess up the head

Yes you can do it. That is what is called a "Safe Mismatch". It is not optimal, but it will not hurt anything. My cab is currently 16 ohms, I can either run my head at 16 or 8 ohms, either will be fine. You don't want to do the opposite. Never run 8 ohms into a 4 ohm cab.
