is there any alternative to Microsoft word that is free? I just wiped my computer and I need something to use for writing.

My friend doesn't have MS Word so he does all of his school essays and whatnot on notepad.

It seems so inconvenient.

actually, abiword works really well, look it up, it's free, and not illegal. It's for exactly what you are talking about.

Yeah, OpenOffice.org is the best alternative. It's what I use to do all my lab reports and other 'uni work, and it's perfect.

Notepad is made by Microsoft, therefore made by Bill Gates.

And you can't exactly format on Notepad, or make essays look presentable, etc.

Just get Open Office.
