I'm a bit older than many here, probably, but I'm kind of curious, when was the first time you said to yourself, I want to play guitar.

For me it was three notes. The opening riff to, no one make fun of me, Poison's "I won't Forget You" back then i was 9 years old, and thought that was the coolest sound ever.

How about you?

Well ever since I heard Eric Clapton (I was around 3 or 4) I've always had a unique interest in the guitar. Weird, I never even picked one up until I was 13 and my cousin had started playing. He quit because I got better than him.

The music in the GameCube game Sonic Adventure 2: Battle...

I just loved the sound of distortion and knew I had to be able to mess around with it.

I just sort of picked it up I suppose.
One day my parents asked if I wanted to play guitar, I asked if it could be a shiny electric and so we bought a Squier....one of the best decisions of my life.

A friend brought her acoustic to school, started playing Sweet Dreams, and I fell in love with it. That guitar became my first and I now have the riff tattooed.

wow they suck
but admittingly, they have some good songs that i really would favor over alot of other songs

but "good riddance (time of your life)" gave me that tingle down my spine listening to it, and that had never happened to me before since i used to listen to music all the time and take it for granted

now that i play, that feeling happens a lot whenever i'm listening to a song where i know there have been strong emotions (ixnay on the wrist slitting) put into it

yeah, green day, wow, i know

my middle school in 6th grade required that I take an art of some kind.
They offered:
Art (painting and such)
Orchestra
Band
and
Guitar

i picked guitar because i didn't want to be a band geek and I can't draw

hmm I guess just wanting to be good at some thing and feeling that i belong to a unique group of people. Didnt start playing till 18 I wish i would have picked up guitar earlier

Dude, I said Poison, trust me, I put up with some ridicule, at least youre band is still on the radio hereand there, haha.

The only thaing that matters, is that feeling you get, no matter how cheesy it is, youre just lucky to be one of those who chose to play. and damn it, i'm sure you have more fun that many of those who take it way too seriously. That is what its all about

3 things

1.)Spite

2.) Wanted to play More Human than Human by White Zombie and do the cool effect on it (I found out later it was a slide using well, a slide or bottleneck)

3.)Got tired of Piano

Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin

when i was about 7 or 8, my parents found a bunch of vinyls in there garage and found a live album by Led Zeppelin and Dark Side and I FELL IN LOVE immediatly!

after that I pretty much just WAS DYING to play guitar. even tho i didn't pick it up until I was 13

but those records really, like really just blew me away. that was a life changing expirience I must say
I love all forms of Rock 'n' Roll, past and NOT present

My reason was completely random. I thought jazz sax was really cool, even though I didn't listen to jazz (I was 12). So I asked mum for a sax for christmas, but she said it was too expensive, and asked me if i wanted a different instrument. I pretty much eeny-meeny-mynee-moed it and said guitar, even though i had no particular interest in it (god I was a consumerist little bastard back then lol). When I turned 13 I started playing, and I got the passion for it solely out of that.

I used to go into my dad's room when he was playing guitar and listen to him. I remember I would always make him play "La Grange" because I thought it was such an awesome song.

I started playing guitar because of that, and because I got more interested in music during high school.

hanging out with some dudes i know that play guitar and the fact that they could play and i couldn't made me want to learn so i could jam with them...oh and so i could nail pinch harmonics on command and make people eargasm

The first notes of Welcome To The Jungle on Appetite For Destruction , up until the last chord of Rocket Queen. They inspire me till this day!

I remember hearing the solo in Nirvana's "In Bloom" and even though the solo isn't great it just caught my attention, I love the sound of that solo and when I heard it I decided then and there that I wanted to play guitar like that.

Slash's riffage/soloing in Guns n' Roses (especially on Appetite for Destruction and Use Your Illusion I) made me want to play guitar.

When I found out that guitar could get me laid.

It took me ages to master the art of pretending that I actually liked music.

I started out doing it to try and be popular and to try and one-up someone I hated. But I realized that I actually love to play the guitar and I love to make music. So thanks to my past selfs covetting and jeleously I found something I truly love to do

I actually went through a period of hating music. I then listened to aerodynamic by daft punk and the solo blew me away, I then got into heavy metal and I decided I wanted to play guitar.

Ill probably get crap for this but.. Guitar Hero got me really into it. I enjoyed the game and though, wow if this silly piece of plastic is this fun imagine how awesome a real guitar would be.

BTO Queen and other old bands were what I heard in my house and all the bands had really awesome guitar and I always wished I could play...

So hear I am 5 months later, still playing the guitar... I didnt think I would still be playing but.. I am If I was able to play Smells like teen spirit after 10 minutes does that mean im getting better ? or is it just a really... really easy song?

Most of friends played guitar and I asked my friend one day to show me some stuff and showed me the crazy train riff and that started it all for me and now that riff still blows me away.

Now im still playing 3 year later and loving it.

When I was 7 or 8 my brothers friend left his American Strat at our house because he didn't want to walk it home drunk. I was fascinated with it for a week until he picked it up. Ever since that week i was obsessed with guitar, so when I reached middle school and my school was fortunate enough to have a guitar program, I instantly joined. That summer I proved to my parents that I was serious about guitar, so they bought me a peavy starter kit. Yeah that's it.

A good friend of mine in Year 5, but then I put it off for about 3 years. Then the Chili peppers already large influence on me led me to me listening to more guitar oriented music. That was when I discovered Slayer.

Um, one time, my dad showed me a DVD of guns n' roses live in tokyo on their use your illusion tour, he was telling about how big they were, then he showed me who slash was then i was amazed, to this day he is still my idol and is the reason I picked up the guitar, another part of the reason I played it was when the school offered it as an instrument so I took the opportunity

Well, i had so random spanish guitar and my bro was with me. We were talking about guitars and he said asked me to pick a song, so i just thought out of my mind, bleed it out. He went to this site, searched it, looked at it for a couple seconds then played it...on a spanish guitar, and i thought....that's awesome.
