does anyone know if i was to order a pre slotted tusq nut how much work i would have to do to the string slots. i don't have any nut slotting files so i may not be able to do it

well for the smaller strings use a fine blade and for the bigger ones file it down with the strings attached to a hacksaw handle it works a treat

You would. I don't think it's worth it - you're not going to get the slots right without the tools (and even if you buy nut files, without the experience). Besides, tusq is overrated. Find a good luthier, $50 for a bone nut retrofit and setup. Boom.

If it's preslotted, you won't need to anything more to the slots. You might have to sand off the sides/bottmo, though.

the sides aren't a problem it i just don't have files to do the string slots but if they should be ready to go on the pre-slotted nuts then i'm set. i just don't have the extra money to pay a luthier..

That's the whole point of buying it pre-slotted: to not have to do that yourself. I've installed two Graphtech nuts (one TUSQ, one tremnut), and neither of them needed the slots to be touched up.

Sometimes they fit right with no problems sometimes they dont. Depends on the guitar. I always need to buy blank ones being lefthanded.

Neither of mine fit, but the nut-slots were good.

Follow their instructions on how to measure your old nut.. Its pretty much spot on... Tusq isn't over rated at all... Sounds better than bone and will only cost you about 10 dollars.. Its one the best things I ever did for my guitar

I'm not a fan of TUSQ. To me, there's a noticeable difference between TUSQ and bone. TUSQ sounds somewhat muted to me, and it bothers the hell out of me.

Anyways, if you bought a pre-slotted nut, more than likely you will not have to adjust it in any way.
Sincerely, Chad.
