Paul Gilbert's signature guitar has hollowbody soundholes... but they're not, they're just painted on? The only reason is for looks, but I don't know what possessed him to put them on such a 'metal' guitar as an RG.

He's Paul Gilbert, he can do whatever he wants and it is awesome.

But it is for looks, maybe because he is classically influenced and they are on violins and such?

They look how he wanted them to look. I don't like them, but someone must.

well when ibanez first aproached him to make a signature guitar, he was using an RG, so he said i just want and RG, so whent hey asked him what he wanted it to look like, he told them just to put F holes cuz he liked them, it's in a guitar world interview, i don't remember teh exact reason, but he just liked the look

on his new reverse iceman guitars the f holes are 85% of the size of the ones on his RG/pgm. He likes to mess about with small details so having a plain guitar probably wouldn't be any fun for him.

I'll have to put the Classic T models on my to-try list. Shame the finish options there are Anachronism Gold, Nuclear Waste and Aged Clown, because in principle the plaintop is right up my alley.

Presumably because the CCF (Combined Corksniffing Forces) of MLP and Gibson forums would rise up against them, plunging the land into war.
