I'm looking to get a very nice amp for recording. So basically I want something relatively low wattage, but very versatile. So far I've looked at a Carvin Vintage 16/7, a used vox ac15, and a peavey windsor combo.

I also found a used fender hot rod deluxe, but they're more powerful than the others.

Btw, my price range is <$500.

Surely there are better values out there, let me here them.

Blackheart Little Giant maybe? Cheap but should work well!

Hmmm. Looks nice. Also leaves me a little extra for effects. But has no reverb

multi fx board?

Perhaps.

edit: What multi-effects do you recommend. The only one I can think of off the top of my head is the Boss ME-20, but I know almost nothing about it.

Awwww. I just got to the part of the Blackheart review where you say it won't do metal. Metal is one of my most played genres

Will an OD pedal work well with it?

If you really have it boosting it, and if you have high output pickups, then maybe.
Maybe try a metal muff with it?
Also, mind actually leaving a post on the thread where i reviewed the BH? I need a bump :P.
Thx.

There's honestly not many low wattage amps like that that will do metal.

The most gain you're going to get out of something like that is the JSX Mini Collossal (sp) or and Ibanez Valbee. But you'd still probably have to add an OD. The other amps you listed would need a distortion pedal.

You could probably get away with an Orange Tiny Terror with an OD as well, but it's still going to be loud.

I've had tube amps for a while now, but never actually had any go down on me

maybe you're not saying the right things? an amp likes to know you care.

So if I get that Black heart, and get a multieffects pedal, I could do metal with it?

(Sorry I'm a newb at this kind of stuff)

theres all the boss ones (at least 3 good ones on the market right now)
but i would suggest the vox tonelab (the one with 2 pedals on it ie vlume/expression/ringmod)
its really good
