Sorry it's already been posted i couldn't find it.

"Shining is a Swedish black metal band that incorporate many doom metal elements in their music. Due to the depressive undertones of their music and the mostly suicide-themed lyrics, Shining are often referred to as "suicidal black metal".

The band split-up in August 2004 and their fourth album, IV / The Eerie Cold, was supposed to be their last, but the band reformed later the same year with a new line-up capable of live shows. The band recently released their fifth album, which was at first going to be called V / Besvikelsens Dystra Monotoni but was later changed to V / Halmstad, a reference to Kvarforth's hometown.

Shining openly promotes suicide and self-harm in all its forms (e.g. drugs) in their lyrics. The founder of the band, Niklas "Kvarforth" Olsson, has claimed, with contentment, that there have been some cases of people committing suicide at least partially under influence of Shining's music."
Ripped straight from the Wiki!!! Haha.

I'm a big fan of Shining anyone else? I haven't found much other listeners.

They are pretty famous here in sweden. Even a big newspaper wrote an article about them for not so long time ago (~1 year ago). I think it was after that article they got really famous among us metalheads here.

http://www.aftonbladet.se/nojesliv/musik/article484179.ab If you dont know swedish you can guess what the article is about when loooking at the picture.

I can translate the most interesting.

"Under the concert we got to see the singer drink urine, get assaulted by a norwegian fan and cuts himselves with razorblades. The razorblades later got handed out by kvarforth to the audience"

Wow, I've known about this band for a while, but never thought to check them out. I always thought they were just another generic poorly produced BM band, but after looking them up, they seem quite awesome! I'll have to check out some of their work.

I hate them. I had to review V: Halmstad and couldn't find anything good to say about it. Horrible vocals, at times glam-rock-ish riffs, and from what I've heard, horrible lyrics. They seem to be a kind of black metal pop, or at least I was hard pressed to find anything resembling black metal in the music.

But that's just my ignorant uninformed opinion
#10
I've heard of them, but haven't got a chance to check the music out yet. I've been meaning to look them up for a while though.

You know a music scene is fucked up when it becomes difficult to keep track of who killed who, who committed suicide and who alledgedly engaged in cannibalism.

That's a dumb question, you know everyone in here would buy it too. I know I would!

Off topic: Anyone heard/like Skitliv? or whatever it's called with Maniac on vox and Kvarforth on guitar?

Despite their absurdly awful image, Shining V is one of my all time favorite albums, and is played quite regularly.

Whats wrong with the image? I always found Kvarforth's over the top antics perfectly fitting. When Maniac came in and forged a friendship with Kvarforth is when it started becoming ridiculous.

I'd rather listen to Diagnose: lebensgrfasd \kvsfdv nfddfmb

Isn't this the band where the lead singer had "an operation to remove his hands and replace them with pig hooves?"

Allegedly, never actually happened though.
But yeah, it's Nattramn (spelling?) from Silencer.

Gooooood stuff.

IV keeps getting pushed back every week. First it was the 16th, then the 23rd, now the 30th.

I wonder what the prospects for tour dates in the US are...

Because it looks like quite the spectacle: http://www.yumetal.net/forum/lofiversion/index.php/t31367.html

*VI, not IV

Tomorrow!

I hope to have enough for the LP edition soon, or I'll just have to settle with the CD.

That and the fake suicide, pretty much. Anyway, i'm dying to get my hands on VI. I wish i knew it was coming out so soon a little while ago, but i suppose i can still get my hands on it within the month, so all is good. Also, i only have III, IV and V. Are I and II worth getting?

Shining is the kind of band that progresses and gets better and better with each release, but I would say go for it
#26
Alright, i'll try and get 'em, although they won't be at the top of the list. I started with V and have worked my way slowly backwards over the past year or so. III is very good, and almost on par with V. Some of the ideas aren't as developed, but it's damn solid. IV is generally amazing...but it has a few parts that hamper it and drag it down a bit in my eyes.

what was that album they did where it just is some guy having a rant at the beginning about how people who listen to black metal arent better than any commercial pop band etc etc.
whilst i dont particularly care about what he says but just the fact it is there, and the style of which he rants just completely ruins the tone and mood of the album.

I do quite like Shining. Funnily enough they actually helped on of my best friends when he was going through a LOT of shit (shit that i don't deem appropriate to share over the internet).
I'm a fan of the Halmstad album.
