Most people don't like them. If you like that pedal I would suggest a ds-1, it has about the same amount of gain, same sound and is half the price. Generally ODs push a clean tube amp or add more gain to a dirty tube amp. Distortions create their own gain and generally only work on the clean side of an amp.
I don't give a shit if you listen to me or not

^^ Not really, DS-1s tend to suck as well, though you did get the part about the differences between OD and distorion.

TS. What genres do you play? What kind of sound are you looking for? And better yet. What amp are you using?

^I know they both suck but they're almost the same thing and for half the price the ds-2 is basically totally pointless.

A pedal that I use with my Marshall TSL 60, is the Ibanez Tubescreamer. Its around 120$ but is deffinetley worth it. Its much better then Boss DS-1 or any of that. You should check it out.

Well, some people hate them some like them.

Satch and Vai used DS-1's once and that's how they got their sound once.

To be honest you just have to try it out.

Highly modded of course.

At least one of those two, I don't remember which, used a Keeley Modded DS-1. There are worlds of difference between a stock DS-1 and a Keeley Mod DS-1.

Vai's DS-1 is not modded in any way.
Someones knowledge of guitar companies spelling determines what amps you can own. Really smart people can own things like Framus because they sound like they might be spelled with a "y" but they aren't.

^ No, his is the one I was talking about being modded by Robert Keeley.

That was ages ago. He's not using a modded one anymore, as he found it too muddy to use as a boost.

^ Even wikipedia says its modded. Why the hell would he use a stock DS-1? They sound like ass. Nothing but rediculously trebly gain, and when you try to back off the tone knob, all you get is mud, and this is coming from someone who owns one.

He and his tech say differently.
You basically answered your own question. The Legacy is a dark sounding amp already, and when you add something like a modded DS-1, which is incredibly warm and fat sounding, it gets muddy as hell.

Steve's DS-1 is discussed in this thread...

The thread you gave me is just as old, and only one person said he didn't use modded pedals and he didn't give any backing to support that.
