How can Botch, As I Lay Dying, UnderOATH, and Avenged Sevenfold all be considered the same genre? It seems to me like metalcore has two parts:

1. The real metalcore
2. The metal that metalheads don't like

Does anybody know what I'm getting at?

Its been debated several times man
Unfortunately the powers that are UG deem it fit for bands like that to be discussed here.

Yeah, it is pretty strange, Avenged Sevenfold are somehow in the same genre as Job for A Cowboy.

Weird system we've got here.

JFAC is deathcore. Both of those bands are pretty bad anyways.

Heh, I've heard them called so many genres, everything from Prog Death Metal to Grindcore, I stopped caring since they suck anyways.

Everyone notice how there's "real" and "fake" types of bands in any genre?

Im not the type of person who does that, but its annoying when people are like "This band is metal!" "Oh that's not REALLY metal, its metalcore" and then in goes to "Its not REAL metalcore, its post-hardcore" "Its not REAL post-hardcore, its pop rock"

Power Metal has nothing to do with hardcore punk, gtfo n00b.

Nobody who has any idea what they are talking about should even bother getting involved in this thread and trying to educate people, its a lost cause.
#16
because metalcore has its own different subgenres
mathcore (technical metalcore)
deathcore (deathmetal influenced)
southern metalcore? (everytime i die, atreyu?) - im not very sure about this

but basically they have a distinct similar sound that when you listen to them without knowing the name of the band, you would go "ah, metalcore"

but i always thought that underoath was post-hardcore
#18
A7X and JFAC being in the same genre is just as weird as Black Sabbath and Nile being in the same genre. Subgenres, man. They're all so out of hand though. Its ridiculous.

Underoath is metalcore, but they focus less on guitarwork and more on lyrics. I think they're pretty underrated tbh.

Also, is Protest the Hero metalcore or mathcore?

No, anyone who knows anything at all about metal and emo can see the idiocy.

I think it's kind of sad how bands that no one likes get labelled in to genres that seem inferior to other genres, even when said bads may not fit the genres.

It's like that one time that matey said Protest the Hero weren't technical, ha what a dumbass.

As I Lay Dying are no where close to emo. Korn still sucks, as do you.

I'm going to actually try to address the threadstarter's question...

I pretty much agree with the rules we have so far. Metallica isn't very similar to Behemoth, right? Black Sabbath doesn't sound a lot like Meshuggah, right? Yet they both fall under metal.

"Hardcore" is a huge, huge genre, and the UG powers have decided that "metalcore" (another fairly big genre) belongs separate from the already confusing world of metal.

Help any, or did i completely miss the point?
Who dat?
