While listening to the song, play around on your guitar until you find the note that the song is revolving around. Whenever there's a resolution, it will be to that note, until the song changes key. It's fairly easy to tell whether a song is major or minor, too.

I just pick a string and start playing everything from open to the 11th fret. Play each note a few times and see which one sounds best throughout a few chord changes. Then see if playing a minor or major third sounds better.

is there anyway you can tell if you pick out all the notes that are played? like c-d-e-f-g-g#-a#-c? what key would that be in?

C D E F G Ab Bb is the C Hindu scale. That would probably be in the key of C major, if the song seems to revolve around C.

it does revolve around c, KSE always plays in drop c too.
