Not really, most pop punk are influenced by earlier pop punk bands so it gonna sound some what the same.
but ppl want every band to sound completly different....yea thats never gonna happen.
#43
that's incorrect. of course it'll sound "somewhat" the same. that's the meaning of a genre but genres are extremely vague and include many different styles of music.

in this day and age, there are a million bands who sound exactly the same as All Time Low. that sound is a fad. (I'm not saying it's bad)
UGers are picky and don't appreciate "recycled crap" which does in fact get old when every new pop rock band is the same as the last.

Umm....They're okay. But they don't sound so different from other pop punk acts. I like their song Vegas though. And Jasey Rae (Acoustic) is alright.

Please stop calling this band and bands that sound like them pop-punk, JessicaGonzo, or i'll call Dr. Frank to go over to your house and hit you with a frying pan for comparing his music to these guys.

wow, i guess worded my answer wrong. what im saying is that of two bands are in the same genre they are gonna have to sound a little bit alike even if its the vocals, guitar, or whatever. and this could happen in any genre like metal, blue, punk, etc. every genre has formula to writting songs, and when bands dont go by the formula thats when you know that the band is any good. And i do not have any problem with all time low...
#47
All Time Low are not pop punk. They are pop rock. he's right.

and yes, there are "formulas" but lately bands like All Time Low are taking advantage of this. You guys know me. I'm all about the catchy pop most of the time, but it's getting out of hand. Most bands these days don't even attempt to bring anything new to the table. The worst part, however, is that they think that they have an amazingly original sound.
and I'm not talking about All Time Low by now. I don't think they've ever claimed to be groundbreaking.

God damnit, people are just overusing this facepalm smiley, just like they overuse the word pop-punk to describe all pop-rock bands.

Dr Frank is from the Mr. T Experience. They're a damn awesome pop-punk band.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8dvaOEuP-_U

Now, compare them to all Time Low, a pop-rock band.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GcNiKCmWdYE

There is no stylistic similarity, not even formula-wise.

anyways, I'm getting tired of So Wrong, It's Right. It was good for awhile, but now it just seems like the energy is not all there. ATL has potential though. lots of it. they just don't seem to push it far enough for me.

^^ looks like an SG to me.

anyways, i still really question this whole pop-punk debate thing. i mean, pop-punk has evolved, just like metal has evolved. compare Black Sabbath or Judas Priest or any other older metal band to any modern death or grind or other metal sub-genre band. theres some similarities, but its still noticeably different. just like pop-punk.

when i think pop-punk, i think The Ramones, Lagwagon, Mr T Expierence, Blink, Screeching Weasel, The Descendents, Green Day, etc.

when i think pop-rock, i think Goo Goo Dolls, Nickelback, Third Eye Blind, Matchbox 20, Dave Matthews Band, Sheryl Crowe, etc

which do you think bands like ATL have more similarities to?

EDIT: btw, i'm not much of an ATL fan. just thought id post my argument here. IMO, All Time Low IS pop-punk, albeit VERY POPPY pop-punk

that is a valid argument there. but I think pop rock is similar to rock whereas pop punk is reminiscent of punk meaning more bands are pop rock than pop punk.

haha more like a search on where not to get it

I've been looking for them on ebay for almost a year and have only seen 5-6 of them listed. They originally sold for $399US but now are selling sometimes for $800.

Lol. Very poppy pop-punk? That's like calling the ocean a very wet swimming pool.

Your pop-rock bands are just plain rock bands.
Your argument about changing genres is void, because pop-punk is a subgenre of punk. Black Sabbath is heavy metal, Judas Priest are NWOBHM, making them a different subgenre.

Bands like NFG, Yellowcard, ATL, the Starting Line, etc, are pop-rock bands.

SG - X Beach color models
they were discontinued in 1999
EDIT: i was beat to it.... ha i dont read the thread all the way.
But dont waste your time and money looking for one, they are not worth it.
You can get a used standard and have a neck pickup.

And my bad calling this band pop punk...

I dont really understand what people love about them so much. No offense to them...but they sound like ALOT of other bands. One song that is good though is Remembering Sunday. That one has AMAZING lyrics and vocal range because of Juliette Simms. I think that she just wraps that whole package up. But overall i think that they're not really something to get too excited over, but thats just my opinion.

You must not know anything about music, film, literature, poetry, performance art, painting or sculpture.

Compare The 3 Stooges to The 12 Chairs. They are both under the genre of comedy but they are definitely not in the same subgenre. Dead Kennedys and Zounds are both punk bands. Black Sabbath and Cannibal Corpse are both metal bands. Tell me that they are similar enough that they don't belong in subgernres.

Pretty much every artist thinks their music is new/groundbreaking and original so does that mean we should make a sub genre for every single band out there? No.

Sub genres are stupid, and just cause people to fight over minor details in music. "**** Metal, I am all about Neo Classical!"

The amount of genres I see these days are un****ing real, I call most of the music I listen to rock and so should you guys.

OH THANK YOU ALMIGHTY MUSIC GENIUS FOR SHOWING ME THE WAY.

How about no? rock could be anything from Velvet Revolver to The Hives.
That's why there are subgenres, so I know what I want to listen to. for example, the hives are awesome. and Velvet Revolver suck. So if they're both rock bands, and I ask someone if they know a good rock band, they may tell me to listen to VR but I mean garage rock stuff like The hives. so I Say Garage Rock. not rock.
