Would this be a good amp for playing Led Zeppelin stuff? (Stuff that sounds like bring it on home, heartbreaker, the ocean, etc...)

http://www.marshallamps.com/product.asp?productCode=MG50DFX

No there are much better amps you can get.

First of all for Jimmy sound you'll want a tube amp. He relied heavily upon an MKII fuzz pedal with a tube amp in the early days and later on just cranked his Marshalls to get natural overdrive.

At that price you can get alot better amps for the price and ones that get Jimmy's sound best.

Do you plan on gigging? Or is this for home practice? Also what's your budget?

Okay what do you all recommend? I am looking for something that sounds like...hmm 1973 stuff? Like in the movie Song Remains the Same when he does black dog? and my budget I can say is no more then 400-500.

Edit:

No, I do not plan on gigging yet...this is just for band practice at home etc.

honestly, i'd go for the little crate blackheart amp, it sounds like it could nail zepp tones.

peavey classic 30 used

+2

The Peavey Classic 30's get some great Zep tones and you cna find them used for as low as $300. I know GC is trying to clear them out because they sold me a Classic 50 for $400 new.

Other smaller tube amps work as well if you don't need many cleans or volume.

The Valve Junior and Crate Palomino's are great because you can get some natural tube overdrive by cranking them and that is one of the ways Jimmy would get his overdrive.

Also you can look into one of these Tonebender pedals. It's a clone of the fuzz Jimmy used in his early days think the fuzz tones from Led Zeppelin I.

These are just some amps you can try or look into, there are many more.

As for the pedals like S.R.V. said either the MKII pedal I linked you to in my original post for Jimmy's earlier fuzz tone. Or the Fulltone OCD he recommended.

It basically means you'll need a cabinet or speakers to run that head through so you can hear the amp.

However I linked you to the combos which should have the speakers built in, that way you don't need to buy a guitar cabinet.

And don't worry that's not a stupid question at all.

Thanks so much for help. Is there any way to order them online, because I am looking for dealers and there are none near me =(

musiciansfriend.com and guitar center I think GC owns MS, anywho both sell the Classic 30 online but you can save a lot of money if you look for one used.

Here are some used ones GC has....
http://used.guitarcenter.com/usedgear/index.cfm

The BOYC MKII you can order from them, either prebuilt for around $120 or as a kit for around $80.

The MKII can be bought pre built here.

The Fulltone OCD is a bit harder to find but i've seen it being sold in various places so a google search should lead you to some places to order them. You can also find dealers from the Fulltone site.

Though if possible I recommend trying these amps/pedals before buying them or atleast looking up some good clips online so you know what your getting.
