Smoke on the Water is a good one. House of the Rising Sun by Eric Burton and the Animals. Macy's Day Parade by Green Day. That gives you a song with riffs, open chords, and barre chords. Anything after that would be up to you i think.

The first song I learned was stairway to heaven, It has a little bit of everything.

Some more songs= One by metallica (up till the tapping solo)
Alot of megadeth songs, like the following = Trust, In my darkest hour, Prince of darkness, angry again. All easy and fun to play.

To build speed I would play = Afraid to shoot strangers. Very fun to play, the beginning is really repetitive but after the beginning is over it gets really good.

Any Nirvana song is wicked easy.

Iron Man is also good.

The first "tough" song I learned was "The Trooper" by Iron Maiden

Flight of Icarus - Iron Maiden
Smoke on the Water - Deep Purple
Tribute - Tenacious D
I Believe in a thing called Love - The Darkness
The Wrong Impression - The Original Difference
Starchildren - Bruce Dickinson (good for practicing different tuning)

I remember the intro to sweet child of mine was one of the first songs I learned. The key is finding songs that you really enjoy, because then you will want to practice them more than any old easy song.

the trooper lol I always found that hard, I havent tried it in a month or so...Maybe I should give it a shot.

And is there a reason why I cant tell the difference in voice from manowar and Iron maiden?

Try 'one note song' by Tenacious D, still the best beginner song
