There aren't any.... thats kinda a huge part of punk. I mean... Dead Kennedy's had some jazz influence I guess and there are some others like that but punk its stripped music, its not full of virtuosos and the like.

See, Punk was a social response to everything that was going on in music and society at the time of it's conception. Punk replaced complex stuff by making very fast/bare bones music that delivered its point quickly. My own opinions on punk aside.. you aren't going to find "good" punk bands in the conventional meaning of the word. Punk isn't about being "good" it WAS (keyword: was) a significant social statement.. not a means of expressing musical aptitude.

well, Punk really is just raw music, don't need alot of bull****, just record it and send it out, your not really gonna find anything to complecated in punk. Rancid used alot of keyboard work on their last album, Indestructable, if thats what your looking for...

okay, well maybe not super technical, but punk bands that can shred. I sort of got onto this train of thought after hearing Dave Baksh from Sum 41. They are punk-ish (ISH!!) and he's a pretty good player.

Try some X, Dead Kennedys, New York Dolls, Husker Du, Television, Dead Boys, and Minutemen.
I'm the same as I was when I was six years old
And oh my god I feel so damn old
I don't really feel anything

Bad Brains, Early Metallica-almost punk, almost virtuosos
The Mitch Clem formula
1)make jokes about rancid and NOFX (as if they dont already make fun of themselves)
2)make obvious punk puns, possibly related to food
3)make fun of Rancid and NOFX again
4)??????
5)PROFIT (and an army of internet fanboys)

From around 2:25 on, if that's not a virtuoso, I don't know what is.

Too bad it doesn't work the other way around.

For the record, Dave Baksch is an extremely pedestrian guitarist, and he's too chocolate to play guitar anyway.

The only punk 'virtuoso' I can think of is some guy who played in manchester in the 70's.

He was a top notch flamenco guitarist, and in between songs he'd turn his back to the audience and fingerpick to piss the audience off.

If punk gets that technical I think it graduates to metal...maybe.

No, no, NO!

He's meedly meedling, but not fast enough to be a virtuoso.

You don't have to play that fast to be a virtuoso. Look at clapton, page, brian may, beck, fripp etc.

check out Iggy and the Stooges, not at all virtuoso but they had some really good solos none the less. Dave Backsh is pretty good. Too chocolate to play guitar eh???? have you ever heard of a guy called Jimi Hendrix??? or Slash??? of course you havent.

I prefer my punk to be loud, fast, and trashy, with sloppy guitars.

Yeah, basic requirements for a virtuoso would probably involve a bit of the old Johnny Fluid, if you catch my drift.
