Self titled > all.

My dad has an original vinyl of it and it's great when in the right mood. I hold it in much higher regard to The Queen is Dead anyway.

I had a hankering for "Hand In Glove" today. So I listened to it about ten times on the way home from school.

Louder Than Bombs isn't an ablum as such, though. It's a singles compilation.

I never said it was, I even said they only released four albums but since it contains material that isn't on any other album and its very good I included it in the ranking.

i just have the very best of the Smiths, i haven't had it too long, but it is awesome and some of the tracks on there are musical perfection

Just by experimenting. He used loads of gear, mainly Gibson Les Pauls, Rickenbacker 360 and 360/12s and Gibson ES-335s into Marshall and Fender amps.

I can get pretty close by playing a Fender Strat into my friend's Twin Reverb amp. There was a great Total Guitar article on Johnny Marr a few years back that I need to upload.

i reckon the smith's have two good songs. but that's it.

I would go out toniiiight, but I haven't got a stitch to wearrr.

That's one of my favorite lines from a song. Like, ever.

And, of course, we can't forget "The Boy With A Thorn In His Side." Catchy catchy catchy.

I love the Smiths. I used to hate them, but i believe they're an acquired taste. I now have their entire discography and must say that my favorite album is Meat Is Murder, but my favorite songs are "Handsome Devil" and "Rubber Ring".

one of my favourites from hatful of hollow. anyone heard the song "jeane"? apparently it was only released with the this charming man single or something like that. i only heard it on someone's muxtape, great song.

What's the song that has the lyrics "I have been on your trail for six years" or something like that?

I'm a big smiths fan, but have to admit to not owning everything they've done.

As for album compilations, I'm surprised no-ones mentioned "Rank" yet, a great live recording.

I grew up with "best.....1" which I had on tape about the time when the stone roses were big (first time round), great stuff.

If I had to pick a track it would probably be "the boy with the thorn in his side" closely followed by "there is a light and it never goes out." Yup I'm a big "queen is dead" fan.

And to those who want to visit salford, I reccomend bringing a bullet proof vest. And thats coming from a Mancunian..........

Yeah, Rank is awesome, especially London and Bigmouth Strikes Again. Great to see Johnny Marr really shine in The Draize Train.

I have decided that Meat is Murder is my favourite Smiths record. The s/t comes close though.

I have been listening The Smiths and Morrissey so much recently after just getting into them. I had heard a few of their songs years ago and finally got around to getting some music on my iPod and I must say, what a band!

I think they are a kind of love it or hate it band though, due to Morrissey's unique lyrics and singing style, well, not unique but y'know like. My brother can't stand them and we have a very similar taste in music.

Also, Morrissey is playing near where I live tomorrow and I haven't the money to go, I'm devastated!

i really wanted to bump this thread, but it was already bumped.

i realized that even though The Smiths wrote pop songs, they managed to make it feel like the world was ending.

.........

did he actually like the Smiths? Because I'd really like to share as little in common with him as possible.

nah don't worry I think he was taking the piss. They are both mancs, and hey, there are some who have accused of morrissey of the odd bout of racism.

Amazing song. Actually not too fond of the Smiths apart from that, although I do enjoy the occasional listen to The Queen Is Dead. It's not that I can't stand Morrissey's voice, but the production on all their other albums always struck me as extremely annoying.

I'm just starting to like the Smiths. I would be listening to Slacker.com radio and some Smiths songs would come up and I couldn't stand Morrissey's voice, but after a while I think they are alright. I still don't much care for his voice, plus the fact that he does the same kind of things with his voice in lots of their songs, but Johnny Marr's guitar playing is wicked. I'll probably buy one of their albums soon.
