i wouldnt waste your money on a guitar amp set like that.
just buy a nice guitar, like an epiphone, and once you get enough money buy a cheap fender practice amp for around $100

I need to buy an amp too ... so any ideas for more of a package deal for around $200 - $300?

If you live in the US you should just go to Guitar Center and pick up a cheap starters set. Sure, the guitar won't be top notch but if you give up on playing the guitar you're only out of a couple hundered dollars. I'm sure a lot of people will disagree, but in my opinion that's your best option. I picked up an Epiphone SG 310/ Valve Junior set with a gig bag, tuner, stand, pics, strap, and book for 299.99 about a month ago and I'm happy with it. It's not the best guitar, but it's good enough for a beginner.
