so basically, i can play very well when im sitting down and i try to play standing up and i suck, even if i play standing up for a couple hours i still am not as good as i would be sitting down, can someone help me? suggestions?

Practice. That was, and still is to an extent like me. I just started playing standing up and it became a little easier. I've heard when you play sitting down put the guitar on your left leg instead or something to that effect, but I never tried that.

If all you did was play standing up you would have the same problem sitting down. Make sure your strap is comfortable for you, I see tons of cats at guitar center with their guitars so low if they were naked, balls would be muting strings. Adjust the strap so your left hand can get proper position (i.e., you shouldn't be floating the guitar on your palm.)

so all i should do is practice, and i'm actually very comfortable with the height of my guitar, i just don't know how to get better standing up really

Why ask that question when you already know the answer.

Practice standing up
Get good standing up
Get better standing up
Get great standing up
Turn 40 and teach guitar at a local shop telling kids how you should have practiced more standing up.

It doesn't take too long to get used to. Just play exclusively standing up from now on until you get tha hang of it.

Have you tried setting your strap very high up while you're standing? At the same height that it would be at if you were sitting (chest area or a bit under, I assume).
#9
well it is different because your hands are kinda positioned at different angles, so just practice, and give it a little time and you should be alright

You don't need to be tit-banging the body of your guitar to get good hand position, that would probably be a bad thing in the long run on your picking wrist/hand.

Yes, but if you could manage both this thread wouldn't exist.

Best sh!t to help is to put on your Ipod or put in a CD that you know the songs to and jam out with the songs like you're on stage..... fun as hell, good practice, and you learn to loosen up a bit...

Used to do that a lot especially when learning songs. Got to the point that I could straight up thrash around while playing..... Helps on stage when you get there too bro....

Remember, your not a rock guitarist until you can do the Angus Young footkick, the Munky full on Body Bang, and Hetfield stance....... Until then, you're just a guitarist lol

just kidding man....

Just try it a bit high when you start, then put it lower when you get better, if you want to still look cool and be able to play at the same time, get a les paul, they are great to play standing up in my opinion

Just pretend youre your favorite guitar hero..

I found that when i learned the fretboard it got easier and easier
because i wasnt depending on staring at it so much. Practicing scales
can help you find the frets without looking. Depending on sight is one
of the things that set me back the most. Also try using the fret markers
as a reference from now on instead of looking at the strings..
I have recently (last 2 yrs) have become just as comfortable sitting down
as standing up.
A good guitar helps also. a good/or/comfortable guitar practically
plays itself. I started out with brands..that hurt me. When you buy your
next guitar create a list of features you want..use that to decide.
