Basically I noticed there were a lot of separate recommendations thread, all pretty much asking for similar things, so I figured I'd consolidate them all into one.

The idea of the thread is that if you're looking for a certain type of music, then post the similar bands of what you want and people should be able to help you out.

Hopefully this thread will open up a few different styles for people who're stuck in a bit of a rut, or that need something new.

Also, if anyone wants to post local/obscure bands, then that would be cool.

No posting of links to illegally/copyrighted downloadable content etc.

Make sure you check out the stickies as well, people tend to look over them and post a thread anyways, when there's some good stuff in there.

Past recommendation threads for reference:

Hardcore recs

Pop punk list

Ska Thread

Not obscure in the UK, but try Furthest Drive Home. I don't personally like them, but you might.

Try some Circle Takes The Square, Jawbreaker, Rites Of Spring, Embrace, Cap'n Jazz and Moss Icon. Standard emoish bands.

How?

I'm not stickying it until it's actually got a few posts and interest.

I'd love to hear some stuff in the vein of Minus the Bear, but with more of a post-hardcore twist or something. Slightly heavier...or just more progressive, I guess.

Drive Like Jehu maybe?

EDIT: They're really not that like Minus The Bear, but they are awesome post-hardcore.

I fail.

If you want some pop pun try The Queers, Screeching Weasel, J Church, Buzzcocks, and The Manges. That should get you off to a good start.

EUGHHHH! I saw them supporting Tellison (who were f*cking UNBELIEVABLE. I'm talking MIND blowingly good) and they were absolutely, disgustingly awful. The guy's vocals were strained from start to finish and half of it was too high for him to even sing.

Why write vocal melodies that're out of your range

EDIT:

Check out .

Imagine The Futureheads raping Motion City Soundtrack in an alley, while Brandon Flowers watches and bashes one out in the shadows. That's what they sound like.

Their vocal harmonies are SO good live. They made me fill my pants so much that I've not even managed to get an erection since.

Bleed American, hands down. That album's amazing.

I'm having Hear You Me played at my funeral: it's such a beautiful song.

First The Strokes remove New York City Cops off of Is This It, and now JEW rename an iconic album?!

9/11 truly was a horrific event.

I just re-bought it a couple of months ago because I lost mine, and the new one is still called Bleed American. Though I do live in Canada, if that makes a difference.

For some reason I'm thinking Biffy Clyro even though they're not too similar, maybe Underoath or Silverstein (ignoring bands which are in your favorite bands or recommended by the_astronaut)

Ok, here we go. Im am really into Fall Out Boys first 2 albums... no FUTCT or IOH. I also love In Love and Death (The Used), Sing The Sorrow (AFI), Paramore's first album, and Yellowcards old stuff. I'm not really into screaming, unless its just a little bit, like gangshouts or whatever. And I absolutely love Taking Back Sunday's first. And now I'm bored with all of that stuff, and I don't know where to go from there.

Any recs?

well, I'm not really sure whether this is pp+e or ska since I have almost no idea what ska actually is besides the use of trombones and stuff (don't comment, like I said I'm clueless)but can anyone suggest some bands similar to reel big fish for me?

The only one I can think of would be Streetlight Manifesto, but that’s the only Ska band I really know. Maybe No Doubts older stuff… idk… Bid D & The Kids Table is another one.
