Basically I'm becoming frustrated with my AVT50 (50w solid state) and I'm struggling to find a nice tone.

I'm just curious, is it really a bad amp? Would a Marshall tube amp of say 40w be a lot better?

Marshall Tube amp rape all other marshalls, and they rape them every where, even i don't want to get into detail

Generally, if you're buying new, a Marshall under 50 watts is going to be a reissue, which means pricey. If you really want British tones at a low volume, check out the Laney VC series amplifiers, or the Peavey Windsor Studio, Traynor YCV20... The list could go on.

Or you can just dink around with the Valvetronix, it's a great amplifier.
