type in text and have it read back by a computer voice? I found a "Microsoft narrator" program, but that doesn't allow me to type text into a box and have it read back.

Start -> Control Panel -> Speech -> Text to Speech tab

You'd have to hold a mic up to the speakers to record it though. Unless you have some kind of record-every-noise-my-computer-makes recording software.

Fruity Loops is good also but takes some getting used to
