Hello fellas, I am going to buy a laptop in march and wanted to ask if anyone can recommend me a graphics card. I have been looking at models with a geforce 8600GTS, but there are hardly any benchmarks available. You only get benchmarks for the models made for regular pc's. Anyone got some experience with this?
It is my first time buying a laptop and I am willing to spend up to 1200EU.

I'll need it for studying, since I'll start going to university this year. Otherwise, I want it to be as good for games as it can be within my price range. I do not want to spend 2000 bucks on a computer. I don't need any fancy stuff like a giant harddrive or bluetooth. Just a good CPU, enough RAM and the best GPU I can get.

get a mac

Nah, I want games to run on it and I don't feel like getting a mac because I'm used to windows. Though these macbooks look darn sweet.
Anyway I'm definitely settling for a pc.

^**** macs, the 8600gts is an low-midrange card, it probably is quite weak but one of my friends has an regular 8600gt and he plays crysis on 800x600 high-med, if you arent an graphics ***** its okay, but post the link to the laptop here so i can check it out with my evil eye

Be sure to get a lot of RAM as well. That's the cheapest and easiest way to increase performance
My name is Marc! Silly username.

I haven't decided on the model yet. Guess it'll be an Intel Core2duo with a nvidia GPU and 2Gb of RAM. I don't know which Processor exactly, but a salesguy told me I can expect something with 2000 MHz or better.
And I'll be happy if it let's me play games with moderate settings, I am more about the actual gaming experience than the graphics.

yeh sli in a laptop is quite expensive and quite hot.
2ghz core2duo with 2gb ram and 8600gts is an nice average rig, youll be happy with it, even more if you get xp rather than vista :p

Yeah I have already noticed that too, e.g. Acer is a bit cheaper than other companies, but their laptops like as if they'll fall apart in less than two months. I'll probably settle for a LG, Asus, or maybe Sony. I am pretty lucky because germany's biggest computer store chain has it's first and biggest warehouse just 15km from where I live. I can get anything I want there
