I recently broke the golden rule of amp over guitar and bough a new guitar (had to be done, couldn't let someone else take it.) but I am still desperately in need of a new amp. Yeah, I have a HR deluxe but I play a lot of thrash, 80s metal, metalcore etc and the amp is not for me.

I can get about $320 from sam ash for the HR (ebay doesn't do much better last time I looked) and I'm looking to spend about $500 to $800. I also dont mind going a lil bit over if it's real good and I dont mind used either.

Bugera 6262-212. Does what a 5150 does and more. At least, that's what I heard. Should fit your style of playing and budget.

I would say get a Line 6 Spider III HD150 Half-Stack, and then buy a second cab (a straight one, not slanted) for it. The Spider III series is probably the best deal out there if you're looking for a Solid-state amp. If you just HAVE to get a tube set-up, ask elsewhere.

it's scary i can't tell if this guy's joking completely or really thinks MGs and wattage = win?!

i believe Randall RG75s are popular amps that are kinda a tube hybrid system.

maybe look into that.

but as far as the MH....i wouldn't buy into it.

ur gonna have to lay down some green if you want LOUD AMP + GOOD TONE. no ways around it other than going used. but even then, a good deal will still cost u a lil green.

take my advice for what it's worth, it's only guidance from mistakes that i almost made in the past.

B!tch without fender amps there wouldn't be a SRV tone.

there wouldn't even be a strat w/o fender.

and if u say SRV's tone is garbage then may God have mercy on ur soul.

I like analogue Solid State amps that make no effort to be "tube-like", and I'm proud of it...

...A little too proud, to be honest.

why???

mg stacks are much better than stupid tube amps that are like 30 wats. mg is 100! beat that.

That's not dsubstanceuk. It can't be. The first thing he'd have recommended would have been a VC30 + a TS9 . His spelling and grammar are also better than that. He's been hacked.

Anyways... Although people will start recommending Bugera 6262's, i'd tread lightly around those. Because, no one has owned one long enough to see if it'll break down or fry. It's just that it's a Behringer product, and although their stuff sounds decent (sometimes), it may not be very well built.
Other than that, there's a nice tube randall on the market which is br00tal, i've played it when I was a budding metalhead (long since turned from metal). Can't remember the EXACT model name though.
But yeah, if you want metal, you really can't get it with a HRD, but it's still a great amp.

Thanks for the help, I've been looking at the 5150s and 6505s (both combos and stacks) and I think I may go that route.

Two questions though:

1) The 5150 combos seem to be decently priced (500-700). I don't doubt anyone, but I dont understand why is such a great tube combo so cheap? Also, how much do heads go for and what would be a decent cab?

2) A tech at Sam Ash reccomened me the Bogner Line 6 stack, and he said it's great. Now i know Line 6 is blasphemy here, but does anyone know if these are decent?

They are better then regulars spiders by a bit, but no quite as good as a good tube amp. If you needed to have an amp that could do a bunch of different things then that would be an ok choice, but in your case I think you'd do better with a 5150 or something similar.
