I bought a Squier Strat in 2003, and comparing it to my more expensive guitars I suspect it might be one of the few good ones. Except for the pickups.

I read through a few sites on upgrading Squiers and the general opinion is that if it's made of Alder, a pickup upgrade is worth it.

The rear says "Crafted In Indonesia". Maybe this is a bad sign. "Model SQ-Special/BK" where the neck meets the body.

Could anyone identify the wood if I post a picture? The rear of the neck seems unpainted.
