I got this camcorder that I've had for about 5 years. I havent used it for 2 years and today when I turned it on to record me playing it said that the lense cap was on even when it was off and the screen was black.

any ideas whats wrong or what I can do?

Its a JVC. I cant see anything besides the text on the screen and it keeps saying my lense cap is on.

standard or DV type?
try a tape that cleans the heads on the camera.
that normally works well

whats the JVC model #?
Some cameras like my sony have a built in lens cap and sometimes the little switch in them can wear out so the cam thinks the cap is closed but its really open...
but it should still be showing an image if that was the case.
