Ok. So let's imagine you're new to guitar (or bass) and have no equiptment whatsoever yet you have the experience of brands that you do now. Also you have a budget of £200 (~$400/300Euros) to buy everything you may need. What would you buy?

I'd buy what I actually bought when I started:
Ibanez GAX70 guitar
Ibanez TB15R amp
a good cord
leatherstrap from earnie ball
chromatic tuner from Korg
and some picks

Costs max 300EU

erm giving a budget of £200 doesn't mean it's $400 coz guitars and stuff are cheaper in america.
Guitars :
Fender American Stratocaster
Jackson RR3
Ibanez S470
Epiphone Les Paul

tbh, I'd save up another £50 at the very least.

with £250 you can get:

a roland micro cube (£63) or a cube 15 (£58)

an Ibanez SA120 (168)

and if they weren't given free a lead (£10-15) and a strap (£10-15)

and a handful of picks (50p each)

total: ~£250

Well I don't know the exact price ranges for guitars outside of the US.. Epiphone? or an Ibanez? ehhh if you're on a low budget you might want to consider some **** gear for now like first act.

I'd probably buy an acoustic, so i could get £200 worth of guitar and not screw about budgeting for an amp.

No, never get a first act. Ever.

You can always get an epiphone or a squire, or a low end ibanez or something.

Its never worth getting a first act.

you're asking us to pick a guitar for you aren't you?

Don't be silly, it's a completely hypothetical situation. Just Imagine . . .

Fender Squier starter pack (i.e. guitar, amp, lead, strap, picks, spare strings).

Yeah I'd buy the squier .
