So me and my brother share a Peavey T-60. My brother's band, having killed two guitars and having a gig soon, were going to use an Epiphone SG rather than the T-60, which can hang with the best in tone and feel, and definitely beats the Epi SG.(or even a real SG for that matter) Their reason? It doesn't look metal. I say it looks fine as a metal guitar, and so did their bassist. No conclusion was reached...so here I am.

You tell us- is this guitar suitable for metal? (internet pics, btw, but the exact same thing)

This one was too huge

edit: this could conceivably fit in other forums...but the pit will definitely give the best response

I thought the pickguard would make up for the woody-ness...and it's not gloss btw. It's a pretty flat finish.

No, Peavey doesn't rename their beginner guitars. Go to the site and look at their high end stuff.

Actually dude, I also have a T-60, it's my main gig guitar even though I have more of what is considered 'metal' guitars. I play melodic metalcore, and that guitar works great for me.

Why should the look matter for metal? If you can play metal on it, then by all means, go ahead.

screw you. peaveys are great guitars to start out on, but aren't recommended to be played by a seasoned expert, and as well, shared with a sibling.

and TS, go ahead. hell, i still have my 1st guitar; a peavey raptor and i go all out playing deathcore on it on stage and stuff

I agree fully with most of you...I don't think the look should matter, but apparently they do. I'm not the one who would be playing, by the way. I'm a bassist in a completely different band.

edit: what's with the idea that peavey guitars are for beginners? The raptor is one of their cheapest guitars ever...it's like their squier.

if you play metal on it... its metal... hence why strats can be metal (aka Iron Maiden) although make sure your brother knows that since it doesnt have 24 frets it may not be the best for super high soloing.

Not metal huh....maybe it's just me. The black one could definitely pass though.

And yes, it will rival a real SG. Teh1337Hax0rz can tell you that. It's tone is hard to describe as it has individual coil-taps AND a phase switch...but I can tell you it's great.

edit: I have no way of recording at the moment...but I do have this and this.

Not exactly the right style...but you can tell it's good, especially if he's playing it with SRV. Granted, the tonal variation of this thing is legendary...so you can't really guess by the clean sound.
