it's possible if your phone provider allows it on your plan/service. be aware that it will probably cost more than a text to someone in the US though.

I don't see why not as long as you know the country code and phone number. It may cost you a pretty penny, but you can. There are also many free internet sites that allow you to send texts from you PC.

It depends on your service provider. I've sent messages to my brother in the US and it reaches in a few seconds. which is cool

Yeah, I'm always texting people in Australia whilst i'm in England, and vice versa. Just remove the 0 from the start of the number, and replace it with the country code. It will cost a bit more than a normal text, but not that much. It's 10p for me to text someone in the UK and 20p to text someone internationally, so it's not that much difference really.
