Learn some John Mayer songs and use his progressions as inspiration. And, when you hear a melody or anything in your head, try put that onto your guitar.

There's some lessons on the main site about chord progressions.

The Progressionator I like to use this when I'm having trouble thinking of chord progressions. Just play around with it until you find some chords that you like the sound of together. I often only take parts of the progressions that it gives me, but you can do whatever you want with it.
