ok, so i'm gettin my electric painted, but idk what the prep should be. should i take the pickups/other hardware out? or leave the pickups + be careful?

I left the pickups, BAD IDEA! Take the time to take them out and do it right.

Remove the hardware and electronics. If your body is in good shape, you can scuff with 400 grit and prime and paint. If the body had dings and dent, you will want to go to bare wood. Just know that if you go to bare wood, you will have to seal, and fill the grain on some woods. At least you will have to use many coats of primer, sanding between coats, until smooth, then put color on it. Take your time on the prep work, your finish depends on it.
