In which case, I doubt you need a Distortion pedal mate.

You should be able to get enough metal out of the Spider on its own

Boss metal zone is more expensive than the DS-1, but probably better as well.

why would you want a pedal if you have the line 6 already ? it has tons of gain...

Boss DS-1 is probaly the cheapest/most reliable pedal, but I doubt it will go heavy enough for metal.
#12
Yeah, just stick it on the 'Metal' mode and play around with the EQ.

EDIT: The line 6 is alright for practise, I wouldn't want it for anything else though.

for rock in general or punk rock, get a nig muff. for heavier stuff, get the boss ds-1 or some the metal zone

The lowest price ever metal sound would be to play with the EQ on your spider.

Seriously, metal is the genre those things are pretty much built for, you should be able to get a good enough tone out of it

i have a spider lll and it does have a recording line out its the same as the headphone plug and then plug it into the mic slot in your comp, you need a big jack to little jack cable
