hey me (guitarist) and my friend (Pianist, female singer) are looking to start an acoustic folk/rock type band.

were going to write music, but are there any folk/rock bands that are mostly guitar and piano with a female singer?

if so, can you tell me some songs we could start out with?

wanted to say Crash Test Dummies, but then I saw that you wanted a female singer.

Check out Dustin Kensrue's solo album. Its really good. You might good good inspiration out of it too...

Bruce Springsteen's Devils and Dust is a good album too that sorta fits around what you're looking for.

And for some female vocals with a piano, you could even check out Frou Frou. They are awesome.
